How do I get to Wakkanai from Sapporo(Chitose Airport)?

kunoichi kunoichi, Living in Japan

I think it is not realistic to arrive Cape Soya by 7pm if you are arriving to Shin-Chitose Airport at 12pm. The bus leaves from Sapporo and it takes about 5 hours to reach to Wakkanai. There are only 6 trains per day and from Shin-Chitose Airport to Sapporo takes about 40 minutes by train. The mo...

Best Ramen in Hokkaido

Mari Takahashi Mari Takahashi, Living in Japan

I have tried "oyster ramen" in Kushiro and it was amazing. I lost the picture so I cannot show you, but there were about 10 or 15 pieces of oyster as toppings! The soup was simple and the color was clear. You can see the pictures at this review site. https://tabelog.com/en/hokkaido/A0112/A011201/...

Can you please recommend a Hokkaido antenna shop located centrally (shinjuku or maronouchi or ginza area?) I love the "pudding balls" from this company: http://www.bocca.co.jp/ And the Hokkaido shop that use to be in Shinjuku Southern Terrace has closed.

Where does the locals go to eat crab in Sapporo?

Mari Takahashi Mari Takahashi, Living in Japan

I have met few people from Hokkaido, but for people in Hokkaido, crabs are not a thing to eat outside usually. They buy raw crab (sometimes a live crab!) at fish market or supermarket, and boil it at home. When I went to Kushiro, I found a UFO cather of live crab!! Surprising, isn't it? I caught ...

How many layers of clothes to wear in Hokkaido in Jan-Feb?

Mari Takahashi Mari Takahashi, Living in Japan

I have been to Hokkaido in January and February and experienced harsh coldness. For tops, get a Heattech fleece turtleneck shirt. It helped me a lot to warm my neck. Adding one more layer of knit or sweater under Uniqlo down jacket is a good idea. For bottoms, wear Heattech tights (knit tights ar...
