Japanese like polite attitude. So, when you greet someone for the first time, DO "bowing" at same time when you do self-introduction. But, please DON'T "body touch" for the first time. and take some personal distance. Japanese people don't have culture to touch shoulder or kissing for greetings. Just saying name, greeting with bow is enough for the first time communication.
