Can Japanese food be eaten without chopsticks ??? IE:With European cutlery.

It depends on the food but almost every Japanese food need chopsticks. However, if you ask the restaurant, they may have folks, knives, and spoons. 
Below are examples of Japanese food that do not need chopsticks:
- sushi (it is okay to use your hands to eat sushi)
- onigiri (rice ball)
- street food such as taiyaki
- wagashi (Japanese sweets, we usually use a tool like toothpicks)
- curry rice (eaten with a spoon)
etc.

You can always ask staffs if they have folks and knives, and yes, it needs a bit of practice :P
