What is Wakalture Experience?
Wakalture Experience is operated by a Japanese female, Wakana. The name “Wakalture” is a coined word of Wakana + Culture.
After she had graduated school, she worked for few years but then decided to go abroad to study English. When she was in Australia and Canada, she interacted with many kind local people such as her host family and she became to love the country she stayed because the people were so nice to her. Which made her thought to start to do something for people coming to Japan this time, to make them love Japan. In addition to that, she has realized how precious her calligraphy skill was. She had been practicing Japanese calligraphy since she was eight years old but never thought this skill could make value to foreigners.
Luckily, the timing was perfect. When she came back from Canada, she noticed the number of travelers to Japan had increased so much; as she saw “TAX-FREE” signs everywhere. In addition to that, a room in Akihabara owned by her family had just become vacant. She decided to move into the place and start a Japanese culture lesson for travelers to Japan. She also used to work as a dietician and thought it would be nice to provide a Japanese food cooking lesson.
What is special at Wakalture Experience?
Wakalture has two uniqueness:
1. No translators at Wakalture
Wakana has a good English so that she can communicate with travelers directly. Some of the Japanese culture lessons are provided in Japanese with translators but that sometimes causes misunderstandings. Wakana is not a native speaker, but she is very friendly and loves talking with people all over the world.
2. Really “REAL” Japan
She only teaches visitors things she is well experienced. As I mentioned above, she has been practicing Japanese calligraphy for 21 years and also is a licensed calligrapher. For cooking, she went Kagawa Nutrition University and had an experience of working as a dietician.
Wakalture is a walkable distance from Ueno and Akihabara, which is very easy for tourists to reach here, too. Around Wakalture, there is a famous temple Yushima Tenjin Shrine. Plum flowers are very pretty in February at this temple.
Local tour and Japanese Calligraphy Lesson
As she likes to show around the attractions of Japan, she has the plan to go on a tour around Akihabara, Ueno, and Yushima / Kanda area plus calligraphy lesson for beginners.
Local tour around Akihabara, Ueno and calligraphy class for beginners by an English speaker
Wakana was born and raised in the neighborhood of Akihabara, Ueno, Yushima, and Kanda, so she has a good knowledge about the area. Some of the attractions in this area are Akihabara Electric Town, Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo, and Yushima Tenjin Shrine. She also knows great restaurants so she can take you to one of the restaurants that are hard to find for tourists.
She is also able to go to other areas in Tokyo with you, too.
After going on a tour, she will give you a Japanese calligraphy lesson for beginners.
