2. Sannosan Onsen Zuisenkyo (瑞泉郷)

Sannosan Onsen Zuisenkyo is a traditional Japanese Ryokan that has a unique charm of its own. The location is excellent, and the environment makes you feel at ease. The outdoor baths have a nice rustic feel, and the meals made from seasonal ingredients is simplicity to the finest. A nice alternative for people looking for a great place to lodge in the area.

3. Oshu Hiraizumi Onsen Shizuka Tei (奥州 平泉温泉 しづか亭)

Oshu Hiraizumi Onsen Shizuka Tei resides in the quiet village of Hiraizumi. Although it is a 10-minute drive from Hiraizumi Station, you can call them in advance to pick you up if you manage to get a reservation. They have great outdoor baths for men and women and the meals they serve is something to look forward to (freshly-made soba, tempura, Maezawa beef, etc!). Do yourself a favor and soak in the hot springs to relieve the fatigue of your journey.

4. Hiraizumi Onsen Musashibo (平泉温泉 武蔵坊)

Hiraizumi Onsen Musashibo is conveniently located at the heart of the sightseeing attractions in Hiraizumi. You can walk to these locations from the Ryokan and have a feel of what the local culture is like. The Ryokan is old, and it may take some time getting used to if you’re the hip and trendy type. The staff are very polite and go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

5. Genbikei Onsen Itsukushien (猊鼻渓温泉 いつくし園)

Genbikei Onsen Itsukushien is a 20-minute drive from the Ichinoseki Station. You don’t have to worry too much because they have a shuttle service for the guests that made a reservation to their Ryokan. This is a VERY traditional Japanese Ryokan. It means no internet, which is perfect for people who want to just relax and take it easy from all the hustle and bustle of the city life. A nice place to take a breather and have a feel of authentic Japanese culture.

6. Yakushido Onsen (薬師堂温泉)

Yakushido Onsen in Oshu is 5 km away from the Esahi-Fujiwara Heritage Park. Their baths are great, and they serve Asian breakfast every day. They also have Wi-fi and a common lounge for fellow travelers to socialize and talk about their experiences.
