Matcha flavor has become big in both Japan and world. The flavor is extended to not only traditional occasions but snacks also, and easily purchasable at any supermarkets and convenience stores. Below are the best ten matcha flavored snacks I would like to recommend. Note that some of the snacks are sold limitedly in Spring, the time of the year when fresh tea leaves are harvested.
1. Matcha Pocky
Everyone knows Pocky, right? Of course, Pocky produces matcha flavors, and this might be known well because Pocky Matcha flavor is sold worldwide at Asian supermarkets, etc. However, there are Japan limited flavors as well.
Pocky Kasane Matcha
This Pocky layers two different kinds of matcha-flavored chocolates. Note that this product is a limited product and finishes when the stock goes out.
Pocky Wagokoro Uji Matcha Cookie Crunch
Pocky Wagokoro Uji Matcha Cookie Crunch is a rich Pocky with high-grade Matcha from Uji plus cookie crunch. “Wagokoro” means “Japanese mind”. I really loved this crunchy Pocky!
2. KitKat Matcha / Sakura Matcha
Matcha flavored KitKat has become so popular as a souvenir from Japan. If you actually come to Japan, you will get to find matcha flavored KitKat at any supermarkets or drugstores in downtowns.
Also, “Sakura Matcha”, cherry blossom + matcha flavor is sold limitedly at major international airports in Japan.
3. Caramel Corn Matcha Milk
Caramel Corn is a popular snack in Japan which is a puff-like snack that has a crunchy texture and melts instantly in your mouth. The standard flavor is caramel flavor, but they produce variation in flavors. Some of them are sold seasonally limited. Don’t worry; matcha milk is one of the standard flavors, and you can purchase at any time throughout the year.
4. OREO Matcha Cream
The world’s famous cookie OREO also has matcha flavor! I have not seen this sold at supermarkets, but this is not a seasonal flavor so that it might be sold at large supermarkets.
5. Alfort PREMIUM Uji Matcha
Alfort is another long-seller snack that are sold any supermarkets and convenience stores. This biscuit snack topped with chocolates are loved by everyone!
6. HARVEST Matcha
HARVEST is a thin biscuit snack produced by the same company as Caramel Corn. Crunchy and light biscuit is perfect for a little snack and tea time. HARVEST matcha flavor is baked with Uji Matcha powder and Kuromitsu. So sweet and delicious!
7. Galbo Mini Matcha Milk
Galbo series might be my favorite chocolate snack in Japan. This chocolate snack has a unique texture from two layers of chocolate. The outside layer somehow does not melt in hands even if the chocolate gets warm. And this snack has a strong flavor of chocolate. You can easily find at chocolate shelves in any convenience stores.
8. Crunky Matcha
Crunky is a popular chocolate bar with crunchy rice puffs inside. The standard flavor is milk chocolate, but they also sell matcha flavors limitedly in Spring.
The matcha flavor product of another series Crunky Pop Joy is sold all time year at convenience stores and KIOSK.
9. Haagen Datz Matcha
Haagen Datz sells many limited flavors worldwide, but the variation of matcha flavor is largest in Japan!
Crispy Sand Matcha Fondue
The newest Matcha flavored ice cream started selling limitedly from August 2016. The crispy biscuit outside, strong matcha flavored chocolate coating, and Matcha ice cream match so well!
Crunchy Crunch Matcha Crumble
This bar-type ice cream with cookie crunch outside is the best! I loved this ice cream and was eating almost every week. This is a limited flavor so it will be finished selling when the stock goes out.
10. STARBUCKS Matcha Tea Latte
The last but not least is a drink. STARBUCKS sells this latte series in Japan, and they have matcha tea latte flavor too! The drink tastes similar to matcha tea latte sold at the STARBUCKS cafes but I felt this one is sweeter. Enjoy the drink with snacks introduced above!
